How It Happened

The concept of reaching out to Beth Lucy had been echoing in the back of my mind for a while. I admired her genuine advocacy for slow living, but as a small independent creator myself at the time, I was hesitant.

Trapped in the mindset that my social media following was ‘too small’ to capture the attention of an established influencer, I eventually bit the bullet. I pitched my idea centred around our shared values and Beth’s mission to help the planet, rather than metrics. I was subsequently delighted when Beth responded with incredible warmth and agreed to do the interview.

That leap of faith completely transformed my perspective on creative networking. What began as a nerve-wracking outreach evolved into my first large-scale influencer interview. Today, Beth and I still support one another’s journeys on social media, reminding me that authentic intention will always succeed over follower numbers.

Shopping locally is super important for an eco-existence and would be my number one tip! By shopping locally, you reduce your air miles by buying second-hand, from thrifting online to in-person in charity shops. I also think supporting local eco businesses is crucial for a slow-living lifestyle.

Period care, in general, is really important to talk about as it happens to a lot of people most months. I looked into sustainable practices and realized how damaging these products can be to the environment and our bodies. So I was looking into solutions for that, and having a conversation about it is vital to reduce stigma and help the planet and us be healthier.

The whole point is to make sustainability accessible. Everyone is really transparent because it's unrealistic and unfair to expect everyone to be a perfect, zero-waste vegan.

How It Happened

The true catalyst for my journey into editorial interviewing began with a conversation between friends. This wasn't just my very first interview; Lydia was the person who originally introduced me to the world of sustainability. When I decided to delve into overlooked, taboo topics within the eco-wellness space, I knew there was no better person to explore this avenue with than a friend I truly trusted.

Choosing to begin this venture with a close friend proved to be the perfect way to break into the interview world. The natural comfort and mutual respect allowed for a raw, authentic conversation that you rarely saw online at the time.

It was a defining part of my journey that allowed me to start developing the confidence to lift my voice as a writer, and I thank Lydia for providing me with this milestone that I will forever cherish.

Honestly, I don’t think I had any education about periods. I had the typical biological side of things where I learned about hormones etc. But never the other side of it; how it affects us every month, things that come with it, how we can take care of ourselves, and how it can affect the larger society with things like period poverty.

The only time I ever really spoke about my period at school was when I lost it! By that point, it was too late. I was already facing issues without even knowing what they were!

Emma really took time to delve into the subject we were discussing, thinking of valuable questions for our interview, and writing pieces in a way which are both personal and professional. She is great to work with and has a creative lens which I admire
