How It Happened
My journey into brand storytelling really began here. Compostystood out to me as a brand that, despite their small status at the time, had a beautiful message, and I wanted to grab their story with both hands and dive into the ‘why’. I was looking for a way to combine my writing with my interest in sustainability, and Compostyfelt like the right place to start.
As my first business interview ever, this project became a blueprint for how I wanted to work with impactful brands. I wanted to shift from quick, surface-level articles to creating something that felt as high-quality and thoughtful as the products themselves. This led to us collaborating on a dedicated social post; I designed the post to visually translate their mission, ensuring the creative direction matched their brand identity. Matt was very welcoming, and the ease of that first connection shaped my approach to future collaborations, keeping the focus on honest conversations.
Even now, this piece remains a significant part of my archive. It serves as a reminder of why I started this space: to find the people building something better and to give their stories a home that reflects the care they put into their work.
“The cleaning industry is in dire need of a revolution. The overuse of plastic in products and packaging is a major concern. For example, a common supermarket sponge is made of plastic and can take up to 500 years to degrade in a landfill.
The issue with this is that plastic at the landfill will degrade using an anaerobic process, releasing methane, a gas known to contribute to climate change.”

Working with Emma was a real pleasure. She was professional, enthusiastic and really easy to work with throughout. The article was thoughtfully put together, high quality, and she made the whole process very simple and practical from our side, which is so important when you’re running a small business.
